30-Year U.S. Marine Retired From DuPont

Robert Wayne “Rabbit” Young, 75, of Red Bank, died on Sunday, March 15, 2015, after a short hospice stay. 

He was born to Robert Bernard and Oline Jeannette Smith Young in Lebanon, TN. He worked 30 years at Dupont as a pipe fitter.  He also retired from the U.S. Marine Corp, after 30 years, in 1986.  He completed two tours in Vietnam then transitioned to the reserves.  He loved playing softball, basketball and bowling and became an avid gardener. 

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Ralph.

Survivors include his seven children, Teresa Arnett, Lina Bryant, Judy (Andy) West, Cindy (Bruce) Whittemore, Elizabeth Oliver, David Young and Stephen Young; 16 grandchildren: Al Arnett, Seth and Claire Bryant, Sara West, Ruth West Lin, Mark and Joel West, Jenifer Whittemore Smith, Richard and Byron Whittemore, Venson, Venessa and Ella Oliver, Robert and Anthony Casey and Dakota Wilkerson; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Mack (Judy) Young; and sister, Gaye Young Smith.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace with Pastor Dwight Martin officiating.  Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors. 

Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace, 877-3524.
