Athens, Ga.’s folk and Americana singer/songwriter Adam Klein will perform at The Meeting House on Thursday, June 11, as part of his Spring Songs for a New Year tour. Klein will play at 8 p.m. The Meeting House is at 3912 Dayton Blvd.

Review for Adam Klein:
Klein’s music blends the finest elements of folk, Americana, and country with poetic lyricism and striking imagery. Klein has released five records of country folk, folk rock, and Americana music on his Cowboy Angel Music label (Distant Music, 2006; Western Tales & Trails, 2008; Wounded Electric Youth, 2010; Sky Blue DeVille, 2013), as well as one album of original Malian ‘Mande’ music, titled Dugu Wolo (2012), recorded in Mali, West Africa. An associated making-of-the-record documentary film is also in the works. Klein released his first collection with his Athens-based band The Wild Fires, Sky Blue DeVille, in 2013. Sky Blue DeVille features touches of rhythm and blues, rock and roll, and country rock set to Klein’s compelling songs, and received strong reviews from Americana media and listeners alike.

This fall will see the release of Archer’s Arrow, a loose album of songs Klein recorded backed by members of Athens pop-rock masters, Nutria. Fine-tuned by engineer and producer Bronson Tew at Fat Possum label’s Dial Back Sound studio in Mississippi, the record was made over a few evenings, the band learning the songs on the spot and settling for the first or second take on most tracks. Klein’s most raw, rocking sound to date, Archer’s Arrow favors Neil Young with Crazy Horse-styled guitars, swelling organs, and a darker lyrical edge. The Spring Songs for a New Year Tour will feature a performance of songs from Klein’s previous catalogue alongside songs from Archer’s Arrow and his multiple as-yet-unrecorded and unreleased collections. Athens-based guitarist Lucas McAuliffe joins in on electric guitar.

Klein’s work has garnered praise from Paste, No Depression, Georgia Music, Flagpole, Performer, Americana UK, WorldView, and Maverick Magazines, as well as numerous blogs worldwide. Klein has toured throughout the U.S., U.K., Ireland, and the Netherlands. He has performed with Josh Ritter, Kevn Kinney, Shovels and Rope, Robert Ellis, Steep Canyon Rangers, Abigail Washburn and the Sparrow Quartet Featuring Bela Fleck, Okkervil River, Shawn Mullins, Fred Eaglesmith, Jonathan Byrd, Dan Bern, Joe Pug, American Aquarium and others. Klein is the founder of upstart independent label Cowboy Angel Music and co-organizer of the annual Athens Americana music festival in Athens, Ga.
