New CARTA Service To Enterprise South Industrial Park Has "Medium" Success So Far

  • Thursday, May 21, 2015

CARTA officials said its new bus service from downtown to the Enterprise South Industrial Park is meeting with "medium" success thus far.

Lisa Maragnano, executive director, said there have been 313 riders on the routes that began at the first of the month.

That includes 241 getting aboard downtown in the early morning and 72 riding from Enterprise South in the afternoon.

Ms. Maragnano said CARTA may make "a couple of adjustments" in the schedule based on ridership.

Steve Jett, CARTA board chairman, said, "This will be a learning experience for a while, but it is an important service. We want to give it our best effort, as I know we are. I believe we will see good results."

Ms. Maragnano said she got up in the wee hours and rode the first bus to the site of Volkswagen and Amazon.

She said one rider told her she had been paying $15 a day to take a cab from downtown to the plants. Ms. Maragnano said, "She was ecstatic."

CARTA honored four employees with its Tomie Award:

Cyndi Bonds (seven years)

Annette Evans (22 years)

Audrey Lucas (21 years)

David Ovalle (six years)
