U.S. Marine Veteran Was Chattanooga Police Officer

Nathan Paul Rogers, 31, of Ooltewah died on May 23, 2015 surrounded by friends and family and is now standing in the presence of his Lord and Savior.

Nathan was born on Jan. 19, 1984, and grew up in Soddy Daisy, graduating from Soddy Daisy High School in 2002. Nathan’s life never once ceased to exemplify self-sacrificial service to others and passionate dedication to his country, his community, and everyone who was ever blessed to know him.

After graduating from High School, Nathan joined the United States Marine Corps, earning the nickname “Hurk” from his fellow Devil Dogs. For his valor and accomplishments, he earned more than a dozen awards, including four Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, the Iraq Campaign Medal, and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal.

After his honorable discharge from the Marines in 2006, Nathan attended Chattanooga State for a brief time before deciding to become a police officer for the Chattanooga Police Department. He graduated from the Police Academy as president of his class in 2008, and served for seven years with distinction until his medical retirement in 2015.

In 2011, he met the love of his life, Sarah Ann Spriggs, and five months later made her Mrs. Sarah Rogers. Together, they filled the final years of his life with many unforgettable memories, deep unwavering love, and lots and lots of fun.

Nathan is survived by his loving wife, Sarah, parents, David and Janice Rogers, siblings Jonathan, Sharon, and Sarah. He will also be greatly missed by his father and mother-in-law, Dan and Brenda Spriggs, and his brothers and sisters-in-law along with many other family members, police officers, and fellow service members. Nathan is also the adored uncle of nine nieces and nephews. 

Nathan and Sarah were members of Calvary Baptist Church of Red Bank, 5201 Dayton Blvd, Chattanooga, where visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 26, from 4-8 p.m. and Wednesday, May 27, from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

The funeral will be held at Calvary Baptist on Wednesday, May 27, at 12:30 p.m., followed immediately by his burial at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
