U.S. Xpress, Inc. hosted The Summer Business Experience for the UTC College of Business.
U.S. Xpress welcomed students with a tour of one of its trucks explaining technologies focusing on safety and compliance, as well as its commitment to green initiatives. Students were allowed to experience an authentic driver’s view as they explored the truck. Moving forward, the tour landed in the heart of U.S. Xpress headquarters as the students were able to observe the day-to-day functions of various departments and reflect on how their own educational choices could develop their long-term careers.
“We appreciate the opportunity to visit U.S. Xpress,” said Catherine Middleton, director of the Summer Business Experience. “The company has allowed for these students to see the many different fields of study and how they play a part in the corporate world.”
The final leg of the tour brought students to the executive boardroom for a Management Roundtable. Students were introduced to many key members of the U.S. Xpress team including CAO Lisa Pate who explained the history of operations and gave an overview of the transportation industry.
Presentations from the directors of operations, logistics, safety, quality, as well as a panel of interns and recent graduates further detailed the functions of their individual departments and opened the floor for an extended question and answer period.
“We are always excited to show these young adults the opportunities that U.S. Xpress has to offer,” said U.S. Xpress VP of Human Resources, Amanda Thompson. “The future looks very bright for each of these students and we wish great success for all.”
