The Frost Falcons 2020 12-under softball team scored a go-ahead run in the top of the sixth and held off a seventh inning rally to defeat the Nevada Stealth, in the ASA national tournament being played outside Sacramento, California.
The 5-4 win on Saturday afternoon pushed the Chattanooga-based Falcons into the winners bracket final against the Texas Sudden Impact, at 2 p.m. Eastern on Sunday.
Against the Stealth, the Falcons fell behind 3-1 after one inning but retook the lead with a three-run second. The Falcons totaled 10 hits against the Reno-based team, at least one by six different players. The Stealth had shut out their previous two opponents Friday and Saturday.
The Falcons defeated local opponent, the California Breeze, 7-4 on Saturday morning. Each team had 10 hits. The Falcons took a 7-1 lead then finished the game with a double play after the Breeze scored three in the bottom of the seventh.
Sunday's winner between the Falcons and Sudden Impact will then meet a team from the losers bracket, and would have to be beaten twice to be kept from winning the national title.
