Lee University’s Dr. Taz Kicklighter has earned his doctorate in athletic training from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. 

His dissertation, titled “A Holistic Investigation of Clinical Reasoning in Athletic Training,” discusses the measurement, understanding, and development of clinical reasoning ability in athletic trainers and athletic training students. 

Dr. Kicklighter plans on continuing his research on the topic of clinical reasoning by developing and validating pedagogy designed to enhance athletic training professionals’ and students’ clinical reasoning abilities. 

According to Dr. Kicklighter clinical reasoning can be defined as the process a medical professional utilizes to cognitively store, organize, and access patient information when diagnosing and treating patients. 

Dr. Kicklighter joined the Lee faculty in 2010 as an assistant athletic trainer and clinical coordinator for the Athletic Training Education Program.  Prior to that, Dr. Kicklighter was the Head Athletic Trainer and an adjunct faculty member in Health Education Sport Studies at Reinhardt University.  

Dr. Kicklighter earned a master’s degree from Georgia State University and bachelors’ degrees from Carson-Newman College and Kennesaw State University.
