Jekyll Island, GA – The defending Southern States Athletic Conference champions Dalton State Lady Roadrunners dominated the field in the opening tournament of the fall season.

The Roadrunners (305-301 = 606) led at the end of both days of the 36-hole Coastal Georgia Invitational to take a 10-stroke victory at the 5800 yard, Par-72 Pine Lakes Course at the Jekyll Island Club.

Three Dalton State golfers finished in the top five. Roadrunner newcomer Katie Dalton (75-74 = 149) from Vidalia, GA. earned medalist honors. Senior Julia McQuilken (73-77 = 150) tied for second with Hannah Sager (73-77 = 150) of Faulkner and Sabrina Schloo (76-74 = 150) of Keiser.

Dalton State’s Caroline Griffin (79-72 = 151) had Tuesday’s best round to finish in fifth. Erika Wardzinski (78-78 = 156) tied for 11th. Rachel Rebne (81-80 = 161) tied for 22nd.  Ashley McDonald (85-88 = 173) and Karly Shane (85-89 = 174) were also part of the 72-player field.

“To win the first tournament of the year against such an impressive field is a great confidence builder,” said Coach Jim McGrew. “I am really proud of the way we played and finished first, second and fifth individually. It makes a great statement. We now just need to keep getting better.”

Defending NAIA National Champions Keiser University (312-304 = 616) from West Palm Beach, FL passed SSAC foes Faulkner University (311-323 = 634) to take second place.
