Dalton State Freshman Emily Poole Wins Individual Honors, Women's Team Finishes 4th On Saturday

Dalton State freshman Emily Poole edged out Nancy Murgor of Young Harris Saturday morning to win the individual honors at the third annual North Georgia Invitational Cross Country Meet on the Gainesville campus of the University of North Georgia. 

Poole’s 22:41.3 bettered Murgor’s 22.41.7 in the 6 K race. “Emily’s a diamond in the rough,” said Dalton State Coach Margie Bruner. “She doesn’t even know how good she can be.”

SCAD Atlanta had three of the top ten finishers to take the team award with 66 points.

The hosts from North Georgia were right behind with 67. The University of North Carolina at Pembroke (126) was just ahead of Dalton State (130).

Coach Bruner is still happy with the team’s fourth place finish. “We have a lot of work to do, but we are ready to work,” she added.

Roadrunner junior Natalie Hensley (23:47.placed 12th, Mallory Edwards (24:54.8 was 33rd, Gloria Pascual (25:09.7) finished 40th, Kuersten Gallivan (25:40.3) was 53rd, Olivia Bird (25:46.1) finished 58th, Jessica Brock (25:50.5), and Ashley Parham (26:42.7).

Columbus State (159) finished fifth, Young Harris (162) was sixth, Georgia Regents Augusta (186) seventh, West Georgia (199) finished eighth and Brenau (249) 10th.

The remainder of the 20 team field consisted of Clayton State (251), Covenant College (258), Berry (341), Life (359), Reinhardt (410), Clark Atlanta (454), Francis Marion (459), LaGrange (464), Oxford College (505), South Carolina – Aiken (513) and Agnes Scott (518).
