"The Blue Trees" Coming To Creative Discovery Museum

  • Wednesday, October 26, 2016

“The Blue Trees” art installation will be at the Creative Discovery Museum on Saturday from 9-11 a.m.

"World-renowned artist Konstatin Dimopoulos will add a pop of color to the rooftop Ginko trees, creating a unique art installation that combines environmental consciousness and social action.
Mr. Dimopoulos has been leading the Chattanooga community in coloring trees a vibrant blue in select locations in the city throughout October. By bringing the community together to color the natural landscape, Mr. Dimopoulos seeks to transform how people view trees and outdoor spaces, increasing awareness of how individually and collectively we shape the world around us. Organic and ephermal, the artwork changes through the cycles of nature and the color gradually fades away over the course of a year," officials said.

“The Museum is very excited to be a part of this Public Art event,” said Liza Blair, arts manager for the Museum. “’The Blue Trees’ is a great opportunity for our visiting families to learn about the impact we have on the environment, work with the artist and spend quality time together.”

“The Blue Trees” is supported by the City of Chattanooga with private funding from the Benwood Foundation, the Lyndhurst Foundation, and the Footprint Foundation. Program partners include City of Chattanooga Public Works, Chattanooga Tree Commission, Hunter Museum of American Art, Creative Discovery Museum, Bessie Smith Cultural Center, Sculpture Fields at Montague Park, UTC, and the Lookout Mountain Conservancy’s Howard School Program.

The event will be followed by an art activity in the Museum from noon-1 p.m. All activities are included with the price of admission.
