Pinkston Asks Legislature To Exempt His Office From "75 Percent Rule"

  • Tuesday, December 13, 2016

District Attorney Neal Pinkston is asking the state legislative delegation to pass a bill that would exempt his office from the "75 percent rule."

That requires the county, any time it gives money to the DA, to give 75 percent of that amount to the public defender's office.

DA Pinkston said he would like to get additional funding for his successful Cold Case Unit that has solved eight long-unsolved crimes.

He said, "We have had sustained success with existing resources." He said the office could be even more effective with additional personnel.

There are over 150 unsolved murders in Hamilton County dating to the mid-1970s, it was noted.

Public Defender Steve Smith was not at the breakfast meeting involving county officials and local legislators.
