UTC Women's Tennis Takes 7-0 Win Over Evansville

  • Friday, February 12, 2016
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team scored a 7-0 win over Evansville tonight.  The Mocs have now won two in a row and improve to 2-4 overall.

UTC made quick work of the doubles point, only dropping games at No. 1.  The Mocs won all three on their way to a 1-0 lead.

Freshman Delaney Edwards won (6-0, 6-0) at No.
6 to keep the momentum going.  Senior Kelsey Coots won at No. 2 and junior Rachele Gazzola clinched the team victory with a win at No. 4.

The only tight singles match was at No. 1 between senior Kayla Jones and Marina Moreno.  Moreno led 3-2 in the first, but would only win one more game the rest of the way.

Jones was sporting a national ranking for the first time.  She is No. 79 in the ITA singles rankings and improved to 4-0 in the spring with tonight's win.

"They were down a couple of players, so it was tough for them," stated head coach Jeff Clark.  "Still, we took care of business and got the win."

UTC was originally scheduled to face Murray State tomorrow, but that match was canceled.  The Mocs next match is Saturday, Feb. 20, against Jacksonville State at 1:00 p.m. at the Champions Club.
