Mocs Softball Team Hosts Tennessee State Wednesday

  • Tuesday, April 19, 2016
The Chattanooga Mocs softball team hosts Tennessee State in Frost Stadium Wednesday, April 20 at 6:00 p.m. (E.D.T.). UTC improved to 23-21 after beating Tennessee Tech 6-2 in Cookeville, Tenn., on Monday.

Against the Golden Eagles, Chattanooga tied a season-best with three home runs after hitting 13 hits. Senior Criket Blanco hit two homers and freshman Jordan Fortel tallied one.

"We hadn't played since last Wednesday," head coach Frank Reed stated. "You always wonder when you have that much time off how the team will respond.
It was a good win. There's still some things we need to shape up a bit, but it was great to get some good offense.”

Tennessee State is UTC's fifth in-state opponent.

The Mocs lead the series with the Tigers 18-1. In the last meeting, Chattanooga won 9-1 in five innings on Feb. 16, 2013 at Frost Stadium.

Tennessee State is 10-34 and 3-14 in Ohio Valley Conference action. The Tigers are also coming off a matchup with Tennessee Tech, losing the series 2-1 over the weekend. Tennessee State dropped the first game 3-0, bouncing back to win the second 3-0. In the final game, the Golden Eagles beat the Tigers 4-1.

Chattanooga faces Mercer in Frost Stadium for a three-game series this weekend. A doubleheader is Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with a lone game Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
