Chattanooga Go Red For Women Lunch And Celebration Promotes Heart Health

  • Thursday, May 5, 2016

The American Heart Association hosts its annual Go Red for Women Celebration and Lunch in Chattanooga on Friday at the Chattanooga Convention Center, with registration beginning at 10 a.m.

“Go Red for Women has nationally made an important impact on women’s health. The American Heart Association is seeing results in fewer deaths among women as well as more women understanding that heart disease is their number one killer. Locally, we’re impacting hundreds of women with the Go Red for Women movement through education and creating awareness through events like the Go Red for Women Celebration and Lunch” said Corinne Henderson, 2016 Go Red for Women chair.

This year’s Go Red for Women Celebration and Lunch is locally supported by Ruby Falls and is part of a larger effort that encourages women to take charge of their heart health by making it a top priority so they can live stronger, longer lives.

Guests will have the opportunity to participate in free health screenings and interactive boutiques hosted by Southern Surgical Arts, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, and Cancer Treatment Centers of America. There will also be a unique “Purse-onality” drawing featuring themed bags you won’t want to miss. The heart-healthy celebration and lunch features the survivor story of a young woman personally affected by heart disease. A “Go Red” themed fashion show will feature outfits from some of Chattanooga’s local boutiques.

"The American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement uncovers the truth about heart disease – an often silent, hidden and misunderstood killer – so that all women can share the truth. Heart disease is the number one killer of women in America today.  Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death for all American’s and the leading cause of serious, long-term disability.  One in three females suffer from some form of cardiovascular disease, and it takes the lives of more than a half million women every year," officials said.
