Tyler Hanks, 23, was arrested on Friday for an aggravated burglary which took place shortly after Christmas in 2015.

The resident told Hamilton County Sheriff’s deputies on Dec. 30, 2015 that someone came into his and his family’s residence through the garage and took over $2,000 worth of items from inside their vehicles and living room. Stolen property included Visa gift cards, a purse and wallet, a MacBook, $250 in an envelope, and an Invicta Watch.

He said their street lamp, along with several of their East Brainerd neighbors’ street lamps, had been turned off. He also said the garage door had been locked and was apparently opened with a card or some type of pry bar.

He later told a detective he had located a woman on social media selling some rare sunglasses identical to a pair that had been stolen. He said he sent the female a message on Facebook inquiring about the sunglasses, and that she immediately removed the post. He said he learned through social media that the woman was the girlfriend of Hanks.

Deputies said Hanks was a “known burglar and thief” who lived in the area where the incident occurred.  The detective on the case said he had previously dealt with Hanks in situations where the suspect had stolen property and publicized it on Facebook.

The resident searched Facbook and found where Hanks had posted a picture of himself wearing an Invicta Watch the day after his house had been burglarized. The victim identified the watch as the one stolen from his residence, and a warrant was issued for Hanks' arrest at that time.
