  • Tuesday, September 13, 2016

Smoke detectors saved three lives Tuesday morning from a house fire in Dallas Bay area.

At 5:15 a.m., a family called 911 reporting a house fire at 1751 Varner Road.

The Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department responded and reported fire showing on the back side of the house and attic. Firefighters worked to stop the fire from spreading through the attic.

Fire officials reported the smoke detectors awoke the family of three adults to find smoke throughout the single-story home. They escaped without injury, but Hamilton County EMS was on the scene to provide medical care if needed.

Chief Markus Fritts, Dallas Bay fire chief, reported the fire started from a discarded cigarette in an ashtray on the back deck. Damages are listed at $10,000. The family will be staying with friends/family.
