William Smith
William Austin Smith, 80, of Ooltewah, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 14, 2017.
Lovingly known as “Bill”, “Smiley”, “Smitty”, “Daddy" and "Daddy Bill”, he will be missed by the many who knew and loved him. Born March 29, 1936 to parents, Sam H. and Irene Smith, he was a proud citizen of Ooltewah his entire life. He was retired from Combustion Engineering and also from Hamilton County Schools as a teacher at Harrison Bay Vocational School. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served as a military policeman at Fort Lewis Washington. He was a farmer and loved training bird dogs and hunting.
His parents and brothers, Hugh James, Eugene Scott, Sam H., Jr. and Wallace Aubrey Smith preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Awanda “Jeep” Smith and Michael Speegle; son, Chris (Patti) Smith; daughter, Beverly Smith; four grandchildren, Christopher; Kerri (Aaron) Regoli, Emily (John) Belitz and Katie (Bryan) Welch; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family would especially like to thank all of the wonderful caregivers of his last year at Standifer Place for all their kindness and loving care.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with with Richard Barr officiating.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 7414 Old Lee Highway,
