Collis Holcomb

Collis Holcomb, age 82 of Dalton, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, November 13, 2017.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert “Bud” Holcomb; mother, Jewel Holcomb; brothers, Kenneth “Rock” Holcomb and Larry Holcomb; sisters, Barbara Ann Holcomb and Carolyn Fox; previous wife and mother of his children, Maxine Holcomb; daughter, Sandy Holcomb Merritt; and grandchildren, Ashley Lauren Merritt and Jacob Scott Merritt.

Collis loved the Lord and his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was known around town as “the bread man” but to his family he was known as a person who loved them unconditionally. He loved and served his country in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a faithful member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Ringgold and served on the board of deacons. His loving, caring and giving spirit will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him, especially his family. We rejoice that he is at home with our Lord whom he loved and served faithfully.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce “Joy” Flood Holcomb; son, Tony Holcomb of Dover, De.; son-in-law, Scott Merritt of Dalton; grandchildren, Cassie (Ryan) Holcomb Lieving of Ooltewah, Jennifer (Robert) Merritt Frisbee of Dalton, Janna Vandalen of Cummings, Ga., and Jordan Merritt of Dalton; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Colt and Presley Frisbee, Caleb and Sean Holcomb and Ava Lieving; brothers, Charles (Janette) Holcomb and Teddy Holcomb; sisters, Jane (Tony) Hill and Judy (Don) Bowen; sister-in-law, Fannie Holcomb; and nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service will be held Friday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. at Victory Baptist Church on Dantzler Ave., Dalton, with Dr. David Flood and Rev. Justin Holcomb officiating.

Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be: Marc Hindman, Greg Holcomb, Eric Holcomb, Scott Merritt, Dillon Flood and Cody Cranmore.

The family will receive friends at the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-8 p.m.
