Dorothy Christine Hemphill Hammonds, 81, died on Monday, October 30, 2017.
She was born April 5, 1936, in Chickamauga, to Mr. Hubert Hemphill and Clara Hemphill Gore. She was a former employee of Memorial Hospital for over 25 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Ralph Hammonds, sister, Mrs. Mamie Coonrod and brother, Marvin Hemphill.
She is survived by 12 children, Gloria Grady, Deborah Smith, Princess Barnes, William Hemphill, Jeffery Bonds and Marva Hemphill of Chattanooga, Donnie (Josie) Hemphill of Nashville, Corey Hammonds of Shreveport, La., Darryl (Kim), Emory and Timothy Hammonds of Memphis, and Curtis Hammonds of Atlanta, 27 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and close friends, Gloria Pierce and Dorothy Mitchell, Barbara Jones, Florence Sewell, and Katie Norwood.
Special thanks to her loving, faithful daughter, Ms. Princess Barnes for being her caregiver, Hospice of Chattanooga, Amedisys Hospice Care and Amara Homecare INC.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 6, at 12:30 p.m. at New Emmanuel MB Church.
The body will lie in state after noon on Sunday. Interment will be in National Cemetery.
