Helping Those Left Behind

Saturday, December 16, 2017

All year long a small group of sweet little elderly ladies do all they can to help the forgotten Gold Star wives and mothers of our servicemen and women that died and left them barely hanging on with an embarrassingly small subsistence check.  It is even worse at Christmas when the pain of not having enough to enjoy a Christmas dinner, much less small gifts for even children, makes this a sad time, not a joyous season for them.

I know there are so many worthy charities out there, but I have watched this small group of women who live on modest means offer a small donated TV and other donated items at their meeting for one purpose.  To raise money to fill Christmas baskets for as many families as they can.  I checked with them yesterday, and donated goods and funds are not coming in like they need, and some families may be left out.

Some companies have not responded this year, but companies like Little Debbie always helps and a few other companies and grocers as well.  I have seen this small band of elderly ladies work tirelessly for hours in the back room of a kind church to fill the boxes for what looks like this year may only be 25 or so families.

My wife and I feel so good inside when we see what the money they receive does for those in dire need here at Christmas. I sincerely ask you to help with this selfless group of elderly ladies that do all they can to make this a brighter holiday for some in our community.

Reasons To Choose Another Sewer Treatment Plant Site

The Hamilton County Commission is being asked to make a tough decision when it comes to the location of the WWTA WWTP. On one side, you have a handful of people who are pro WWTP at Mahan Gap because they want to develop northern Hamilton County and on the other hand, you have residents who want to protect the largest investment that they've made, i.e., their home and their ability ... Why WWTA's Plan Should Be Discarded

Thanks to a live feed, I was able to watch about three hours of the very important Hamilton County Commission meeting on Dec. 12 while in Alabama. This was the first time I have been able to hear both sides of the WWTA vs. Ooltewah Homeowners fully present their arguments. One thing we can all agree on is that they have to do something, the question is what is the best for all. ... (click for more)

Riverdale basketball coach Michael Voss has a reason for his scheduling philosophy. “I’m just trying to schedule good teams,” Voss said Monday night after his previously once-beaten Warriors fell to undefeated Baylor, 62-41, on Austin Clark court in Duke Arena. “Baylor is good, East Hamilton is good and McCallie is good, so you know what you’re getting into.” Before Monday, ...
