Gregg L. Ballew, 52, of Newnan, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2017.

He was born August 16, 1964, in Sylva, N.C. Gregg graduated from Ooltewah High School in 1982 and served six years with the US Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS America. Gregg received a Bachelor's degree from Mercer University and an MBA from University of Phoenix. Gregg was employed by Rockwell Collins for 26 years, where he held the position of service center manager.

Gregg was a member of Crossroads Church in Newnan and a member of Hickory Valley Christian Church in Chattanooga. He was an avid sports fan, notably dedicated to the Atlanta Braves and Tennessee Volunteers, as well as spending many years coaching and playing baseball, softball, tennis, and basketball. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, whether it be fishing, camping, spending time at the beach, or simply working in the yard.

Most of all, Gregg was a devoted father, husband, son, brother, and friend.  He cherished his family and spent his entire life providing for them.  Gregg set an excellent example and legacy for us all to follow and his family and friends will miss him greatly.

Gregg is survived by his parents, Johnny and Anita Ballew of Ringgold, Georgia; his wife of 29 years, Kim Pratt Ballew; son, Alex Ballew; daughters, Audrey and Emma Ballew; brother, Eric (Jami) Ballew of Ringgold, Georgia; sister, Gretta Davidow of Miami, Florida; mother-in-law, Grace Pratt; brother-in-law, Chris (Sherri) Pratt; sister-in-law, Karen Pratt, all of Ooltewah, Tennessee; nephew, James Pratt; nieces Elizabeth Pratt, Brittany Rowe, Ashlyn Ballew, Addison Ballew, Calla Rowe, Braylee Ballew, and Demmi Rowe.

Gregg was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tom and Elsie Ballew, of Lawrenceville, Ga.; Louin and Ruth Cabe, of Otto, N.C.; and father-in-law, Fred Pratt, of Ooltewah.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home in Newnan, Ga.   

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, at 12:30 p.m. at Hickory Valley Christian Church, 6605 Shallowford Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Interment will be held at 2 p.m. in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
