School Board Approves New Charter School In Highland Park

  • Thursday, April 27, 2017

The County School Board on Thursday approved a new charter school that will open next year in Highland Park.

Ted and Kelly Alling are co-founders of the Chattanooga Preparatory School.

The all-boys school will operate in former Tennessee Temple School buildings next to another charter school - the Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy.

The school will open with 60 students in the sixth grade and will add a grade each year.

Officials said initial feeder schools will be Dalewood, East Lake and Orchard Knob. Eventually, students may come from Howard and Brainerd.

Tiffanie Robinson, who did not vote due to her association with the founders, said the school has "a phenomenal board and leadership team."

She praised the founders and board members "for stepping out of the business world into the education community."

The county schools would pass through about $480,000 for the 60 students, it was stated.
