David Michael “Butch” Thompson, 71, of Ooltewah, went home to be with the Lord on May 31, 2017.

Born in Gadsden, Al., on January 24, 1946, to the late M.C. and Ruby Thompson, David was a graduate of Tyner High School and attended Baylor University before enlisting in the Army where he served two tours in Vietnam.

While in service, David traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia before being honorably discharged and returning to Chattanooga.

David completed his undergraduate work at UTC followed by his master's in Psychology at MTSU.

He was a lifelong member of Concord Baptist Church where he actively served his entire adult life, teaching Sunday School, serving as a deacon and elder.

David served his community throughout his professional career committing his time and energy working with the mentally and physically challenged.  His work as a psychological examiner led him to service at Team Evaluation, Orange Grove, Erlanger, Moccasin Bend and then into private practice.

A man of many talents, David was an avid golfer, wood worker, constant reader and a master of trivia and crossword puzzles.

Loved by all who knew him – and most of all his family, David was a friend to everyone and a “well” of great stories and wisdom.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 3, at 1 p.m. in the chapel with Reverend Drew Scott and Reverend Bob Segrest officiating. Burial will  follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens, West.
