Lookouts Extend First Place Lead To 1 1/2 Games With Six Games Remaining

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Felix Jorge (7-1) allowed just three hits over seven innings, leading the Chattanooga Lookouts over the Montgomery Biscuits in a 6-0 win on Monday.

Jorge pitched into the seventh inning for the sixth straight start and he allowed two runs or fewer for the fourth straight appearance.

In this game, he pitched seven scoreless frames and limited the Biscuits to three hits.

Jorge struck out five and walked two as he lowered his season ERA to 3.00. The Lookouts improved to 11-1 in games started by Jorge this season.

With Tennessee's 6-5 loss to Jackson, the Lookouts now lead the Smokies by 1 1/2 games, and the Biscuits by 3.0 games. 

In the top of the fifth, Chattanooga broke a scoreless tie on a single by Edgar Corcino that scored Dan Rohlfing.

The Lookouts then added a run in the seventh.

Things opened up in the top of the ninth with two outs. Corcino singled and LaMonte Wade reached on a throwing error that saw both runners move up a base. Jonathan Rodriguez collected a two-run single and came around to score on a Andy Wilkins double. Two more wild pitches would push across another run and make the score 6-0.

Chattanooga out-hit Montgomery, 13-to-4. Nick Gordon went 2-for-5, including his 18th double; Edgar Corcino was 2-for-4, with an RBI; Jonathan Rodriguez went-2-for-4 with 2 RBI; T.J. White was 2-for-4; Andy Wilkins went 2-for-5, with 2 doubles and 2 RBI.

Jose Mujica (5-4) went 5 2/3 innings, allowing one run and nine hits in the Southern League game. He also struck out three and walked one.

Mason Melotakis struck out the side during a perfect eighth inning. After watching a long top of the ninth, Melotakis allowed a double in the bottom half of the inning, He still managed a pair of strikeouts to end the night with five strikeouts in two innings of work.

Montgomery was held scoreless for the third time this season, while the Chattanooga staff recorded its seventh shutout of the year.

The Lookouts go for the sweep over the Biscuits on Tuesday before heading to Kodak, TN for the final five-game showdown with the Tennessee Smokies with first-place on the line.

Roster Moves:

RHP Randy LeBlanc has been transferred to Hi-A Fort Myers,

RHP  Dereck Rodriguez has been transferred from Hi-A Fort Myers. Rodriguez will be the starting pitcher in Tuesday night's game in Montgomery.

OF Ryan Strausborger was placed on the seven-day disabled list with a left-groin strain. 

1B Andy Wilkins was signed by the Lookouts out of the Sugar Land Independent League.

As noted earlier, LHP Randy Rosario was returned to the Lookouts from the Minnesota Twins
