I-24 East bridge repair over Chestnut Street at mile marker 178.6 near the U.S. 27 interchange and safety improvements on the bridges over the CSX Railroad and over U.S. 27: Work will begin this week on a project to repair the bridge on I 24 East over Chestnut Street at mile marker 178.6 near the U.S. 27 interchange. The project will also make safety improvements on two other bridges in the same area, one over the CSX Railroad and one over U.S. 27. In addition to making major bridge deck repairs to the bridge over Chestnut Street, this project includes the installation of high-friction surface treatment on all of the bridge decks. On Thursday and Friday nights, between 7 p.m.-6 a.m. EDT, the contractor will begin shifting traffic and reworking overhead signs. Once the traffic is shifted and the signs reworked, work on the project will begin. If rain postpones this work, it will be rescheduled to take place as soon as possible. During the project, the bridge on I-24 East will be completely closed to traffic and a detour using the Lookout Mountain/Broad Street ramp (Exit 178) will be used to move traffic around the work zone and allow it to continue on I-24 East. Once I-24 East is closed for bridge repairs, all repair operations will be done using a continuous daily operation (seven days per week) until necessary repairs are completed and/or all lanes are open to the free, unrestricted flow of traffic. Additionally, traffic accessing Lookout Mountain/Broad Street from U.S. 27 South will be detoured until completion of the project. THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary. U.S. 27 (I-124) widening from I-24/U.S. 27 interchange to north of the Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River, including widening the Olgiati Bridge: Work on this project continues. The speed limit on U.S. 27 in the construction zone is 45 MPH. On weeknights during this report period between 7 p.m.-6 a.m., the contractor will have a temporary left lane closure on U.S. 27 South from Manufacturers Road to I-24 for beam removal. Southbound Exit 1A will be closed during this time due to Eastbound Martin Luther King Boulevard being closed. On U.S. 27 South, traffic has been shifted to the right on U.S. 27 South from 4th Street to MLK Boulevard to allow the contractor to safely work in the middle portion of the road. Traffic is impacted by the loss of acceleration/merge areas onto U.S. 27 South from the on ramps at 4th Street and MLK Boulevard. On U.S. 27 North, traffic has been shifted to the right on U.S. 27 North from I-24 to MLK Boulevard to allow the contractor to safely work in the middle portion of the road. Traffic is impacted by the loss of acceleration/merge areas onto U.S. 27 North from the on ramp at MLK Boulevard. The new loop ramp from eastbound MLK Blvd. to U.S. 27 North is open and the previous left turn to the northbound ramp is closed. Ramp traffic must yield at these locations. The contractor may have temporary lane or shoulder closures on U.S. 27 between 7 p.m.-6 a.m. At least one lane will remain open in each direction on U.S. 27. SR 317 (Apison Pike) the grading, drainage and paving on from Old Lee Highway (LM 5.58) to SR-321 (Ooltewah-Ringgold Road) (LM 7.84): Work on this project continues. During this report period the contractor may have intermittent lane closures throughout the project from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed. SR-320 (East Brainerd Road) grading, drainage, installation of signals, construction of seven retaining walls and paving from east of Graysville Road to east of Bel-Air Road: Work on this project continues. During this report period, the contractor will have intermittent lane closures between 9 a.m.-2 p.m. This work may affect either direction of East Brainerd Road or side streets from Graysville Road to Hamlett Drive as the contractor installs road crossings and borings. Traffic has been switched onto the newly-constructed section from the west end of the project to the Hurricane Creek Road/East Brainerd Road intersection, allowing the contractor to work on the other side of the roadway. SR-153/SR-319 (Hixson Pike) bridge repair on Hixson Pike over SR-153: Work on this project continues. The contractor will be working on the inside lanes of the bridge. The outside lanes in both directions are open to traffic. This lane closure will be in place until late November. During this report period the contractor may have intermittent lane closures on SR-153 from 9 p.m.-6 a.m. to do work under the bridge. If there are any temporary closures needed on SR-153 as part of this project, they will take place at nighttime on Sundays through Thursdays between 9 p.m.-6 a.m. and on weekdays on SR-153 South between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and on SR-153 North between 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary during these temporary closures. U.S. 27 (SR-29) resurfacing from north of Signal Mountain Road (LM. 3.02) to north of SR-29 (MM. 6.0/LM 6.07): This project is complete. There are a few minor punch list items to be corrected. SR-153 resurfacing from L.M. 7.11 (Chickamauga Dam) to LM 8.89 (Hixson Pike): Work on this project continues. The tunnel cleaning of the McCallie Tunnel on U.S. 11 (US 64, SR-2), the Stringers Ridge Tunnel on U.S. 127 (SR-8), and the Bachman Tubes on U.S. 41 (U.S. 76, SR-8): The nighttime cleaning operation of McCallie Tunnels, Stringers Ridge Tunnel, and Bachman Tubes occurs between 8 p.m.-6 a.m. Tunnels will be closed during cleaning, and detours will be marked accordingly as each tunnel is cleaned.
