The Covenant men’s soccer team fell victim to an explosive second half that featured four goals by N.C. Wesleyan as the Battling Bishops secured a 4-0 victory at Scotland Yard on Friday night.

The Scots’ best scoring chance of the evening came early in the second half when Carl Simakoff slotted a pass into the middle of the box, but nearly missed a charging Anthony Buzzeo who would have had a strong scoring opportunity from close range. Covenant (2-4, 0-1 USA South) had 10 total shots with Simakoff, Seth Robinson, and Josiah McDaniel tied for the team lead with two shots each.

N.C.
Wesleyan’s (1-4, 1-0 USA South) Baboucarr Njie had a stellar night, scoring three goals on 10 shots to secure a hat trick. His first two goals came from 20 yards out in the 54th and 59th minutes, while the third of his scores came from 10 yards out in the 90th minute. Ignacio Lerech had the other score for the Bishops, putting the ball in the middle of net from five yards out.

Covenant keeper Jonathan Crossman faced an array of Bishops chances in the contest, as N.C. Wesleyan recorded 21 shots total. Crossman had four saves as the Bishops managed eight shots on goal. N.C. Wesleyan keeper Jordan Williams posted three saves.
