Joy Marie Daniel, of Chattanooga, 69, passed away on September 25, 2017, surrounded by her family.

Joy’s childhood was spent with her family in various Naval stations. Born in Memphis, on Dec. 11, 1947, she attended schools in Charleston, SC; Key West, Fl.; and Newport, RI. She was graduated from Red Bank High School in 1965. Upon graduation from Edmondson Business College, she worked for many years at the Volunteer Army Ammunitions Plant. After raising her family, she attended Chattanooga State to become a certified nursing assistant. She spent the remainder of her working career providing home health care to many patients.

She was a member of Saint Jude Catholic Church. Her happiest moments were spent being Nana to her grandchildren, gardening, reading mysteries, baking the best chocolate chip cookies and breads, and tending to every pet’s special demands, including the neighborhood birds. Her warm and loving smile was developed over many years of loving her family in the best and worst of times, and it will be sorely missed by all those who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her father, James William Holman, Sr.; her mother, Rose Marie Cotten Holman; an infant son, Jason Philip Daniel; and her brother, James William Holman, Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Philip Linwood Daniel; daughters Mary Katherine Fretz (Paul) of Athens and Ann Marie Powell (John) of Harrison; sister Jeanie McKenna (Michael) of Chattanooga; grandchildren Madeline Powell, Keegan Powell, and Camy Fretz; nephews Jason Holman, Sean McKenna and Ryan McKenna; and many other family members.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at St. Jude Catholic Church with the Reverend Father Michael F. Nolan officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 2, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 5401 TN-153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hydrocephalus Association, 4340 East West Highway, Suite 905, Bethesda, MD 20814-4447.
