Roy Lee Wofford
Roy Lee Wofford

Roy Lee Wofford, age 68, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, January 17, 2018 at a local hospital after 14 years of declining health. Roy had been sick since 2003, and for 14 years, no matter the obstacle or battle that came along with his health, he never wavered or complained.

Roy was born in Dalton, Georgia on March 13, 1949.  He was a son of Margaret Wofford of Dalton, and the late John Hershel Wofford.  Along with his father he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Patsy Sitton Wofford, who died in May 1987; brothers, James Wofford and Ed Wofford; also his mothers-in-law and fathers-in-law, Millard and Mamie Pendley, Ralph and Maybell Sitton.

Roy was the former owner and operator of Roy’s Yarn Sales, and later in life he was employed by Angel Trucking.  His wife recalls him as the godliest, caring, and loving person she could ever have imagined knowing.  He was a very giving person never expecting anything in return, he never met a stranger.  His friends and family always knew they could call on Roy, and never be let down.  He re-dedicated his life to Christ in 1985 and lived that life faithfully until the end.  He was a very dedicated member of the Beulah Land Baptist Church in Resaca, Ga.

Roy is survived by his loving wife, Robin Pendley Wofford of the home; his mother, Margaret Wofford of Dalton; daughters and sons-in-law, Rachel and Brad Stone of Sugar Valley, Kim and Ralph Parker Jr. of Calhoun; son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Kaila Stinson of Dalton; sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Dan Bohannon of Calhoun; brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Devon Wofford of Dalton; grandchildren, Max and Eli Stone, Becky McReynolds, Nathan and Jennifer Parker; great-great-grandchildren, Jayla Bowman, Aubrey Bowman, Grayson Parker, and Callie Parker; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Brenda and Harold Weatherford of Acworth; uncle, Gene Wofford; and an aunt and her spouse, Mary Lynn and Harold Gazaway; special friends, Donald and Linda Stone, and Floyd and Betty Sullivan; many nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.

A service to celebrate the life of Roy Wofford will be held on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. from the Beulah Land Baptist Church with Reverend Adam Thomas, Reverend Michael Blackstock, and Reverend Harold Weatherford officiating.  Music will be provided by Donald Stone, Debbie Blackstock, Brandy Watkins, and Annette Grigsby.

Roy will be laid to rest at the Tilton Baptist Church Cemetery.  Jonas Carroll, Chandler Thomas, Roger Stover, Glenn Ballinger, Jesse Owens, Derrick Roberson, Johnny Amonette, and Michael Clark will be honored to serve as pallbearers.  Honorary Escort will be Randy Whitfield, C.W. Watkins, Floyd Sullivan, Donald Stone, Earl Amonette, Marvin Garner, Tony Angel, and John Carver.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Jan. 19, from 4-9 p.m. at the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home.
