Jonathan Barrett's first goal of the season came at the right time for the Covenant men's soccer team. Barrett's score in the 64th minute, along with a strong defensive effort in the second half, led the Scots to a 1-0 win over William Peace on Saturday at Scotland Yard.

The win is the fourth straight for Covenant (11-5-1, 7-2-1 USA South). The victory also clinched a top-2 seed for the Scots in the West Division for the USA South Tournament, meaning Covenant will play at least one tournament match at Scotland Yard.

The lone tally of the match came midway through the second half.
On a quick counter-attack, the Scots got a look from inside the box, but Austin Berry's attempt was denied by William Peace keeper Jacob Smith. However, Smith was only able to deflect the ball away and it came to Barrett on the opposite side of the box when the senior booted the ball back towards the net and past Smith for the score to give the Scots a 1-0 lead in the 64th minute.

The goal was Barrett's first score of the season.

From there, it was the Covenant defense that stood tall. After the visiting Pacers took 11 shots in the opening half, the Scots limited William Peace to just two attempts over the final 45 minutes. Covenant had to hang on in the final seconds as William Peace was awarded a free kick from just outside the box and played the ball to the net, but Alfredo Martinez's attempt went wide as time wound down.

It was Covenant's sixth shutout of the season.

Paul Lemay collected his fifth shutout of the year as he made four saves in the contest, all coming in the first half. Smith made six saves for the Pacers.

Covenant outshot William Peace (8-3-5, 6-2-3 USA South) 20-13 on the day. Anthony Buzzeo had four attempts to lead the Scots, while Oscar Aguirre led the Pacers with his four shots.

Covenant will finish the regular season with a home contest against Huntingdon on Friday, Oct. 26. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
