Chris Brown
Red Bank High School announced Chris Brown as the new head coach of the Lions’ Football Team.
Coach Brown comes to Red Bank from Cleveland High School where he currently serves as a varsity assistant football coach. Prior to his tenure at Cleveland, Brown was an assistant coach at Ooltewah High School and Unicoi County High School.
Brown was a preferred walk-on at Vanderbilt in 2003, practicing and dressing with the team but did not actually appear in a game.
In 2004, Brown gave up playing at VU due to multiple concussions and transferred to East Tennessee State and began coaching at Unicoi County, launching a coaching career that led him to Red Bank. While Brown attended ETSU, the Bucs did not have a football program.
“We are excited to welcome Chris Brown to Lion Country. Coach Brown brings a commitment to excellence both on the field and in the classroom. I know he will build upon the great tradition of Red Bank football and our current success,” Red Bank Principal Elaine Harper said.
"I am incredibly humbled and excited for the opportunity to lead Red Bank High School's football program,” Coach Brown stated. “It is an honor to be a part of the rich tradition and true community pride. My wife and I are fully committed to investing all we can to continue to build on such a respectable and strong program."
The selection committee was comprised of community, parent, and school representatives. Coach Brown received an overwhelming endorsement from all members of the committee and was the unanimous choice. Parent Tenika Jackson stated that Brown was the “best candidate” for the position and Assistant Principal Wendell Weathers noted that, “we found the person who will bring the community together.” Former RBHS coach and alumna Susan Thurman said that Coach Brown is “the total package” and is “the perfect fit for Red Bank.”
Red Bank High School thanks Wendell Weathers, Tenika Jackson, Susan Thurman, Assistant Principal Monica Gordon, Athletic Director Mandi Munn, Dean of Students Stefan Hunt, faculty member Dani Morris, and former player Gerald Ware for serving on the selection committee.
