Red Cross To Honor Military Children During Month Of The Military Child

  • Thursday, March 15, 2018

April is Month of the Military Child, and the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee will recognize military children and the contribution they make as their parent/guardian is called to serve.

The American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee will celebrate and honor military children at Military Kids Serve Too event on Sunday, April 15 at the Creative Discovery Museum, to recognize the strength and sacrifice displayed by the children of Tennessee’s military and veteran community.  Registration begins at 4 p.m., with the program beginning at 4:45 p.m.

"This event is one of many efforts taking place to celebrate military children across the state.  The highlight of this fun-filled event will be a special challenge coin ceremony.  Each child will receive a customized coin commemorating their special designation as our nation’s youngest patriots," officials said.

“We are so thankful for the support of Creative Discovery Museum and our partners for helping us celebrate military children in our community,” said Julia Wright, executive director, American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee.  “Military children are faced with unique demands of military life, and we look forward to honoring and celebrating them as we recognize their strength and sacrifice each day.”

Children ages birth through 17, whose parent/guardian is currently serving in the US Armed Forces (active, reserve and guard) or is a military veteran, are invited to attend the Military Kids Serve Too event.  Space is limited. Admission is free, but reservations are required and may be placed online at www.redcross.org/MKSTChattanooga. For more information, contact Julia Wright at julia.wright@redcross.org.

Military Kids Serve Too program partners include Operation Military Kids and TN National Guard Child and Youth Program.  Military Kids Serve Too is sponsored by Creative Discovery Museum.

The Creative Discovery Museum is located at 321 Chestnut St. in Chattanooga.
