Carrie Mae Hunter Ashmore, affectionately known as "Aunt Carrie Mae" and "Aunt Cassie", departed this life at NHC of Chattanooga on March 15, 2018.

She was born March 7, 1920 in Chattanooga. Her mother, father, and six siblings have all preceded her in death.

Mrs. Ashmore was a 1938 graduate of Howard High School. She worked for many years at Women's' Hospital and later at Downtown General Hospital, where she retired. She was a lifelong, faithful, and active member of Second Missionary Missionary Baptist Church. Cooking and delicious food were her forte.

Mrs. Ashmore is survived by a loving daughter, Mary McCleary Carter; devoted niece and nephew, Barbara Lindsey Roberts and her husband, Wilbert R. Roberts, Jr.; loving nephew, Anthony (Barbara) Hunter, Carneys Point, NJ; dear great-niece and great-nephews, Sharon Hunter, Darrel Hunter, and Kenneth (Kimberly) Hunter; a host of other grandchildren, great-nieces and great-nephews; dear cousin, Mary E. Grier, Chicago, IL, other extended family and dear friends. 

The body will lie in state Monday, March 19, 2018 after 12 noon at the funeral home. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 20, beginning at 11 a.m. at the church and the service will follow at 12 noon, with Dr. Ernest L. Reid, Jr. officiating. Reverend Paul A. McDaniel will deliver the eulogy.

Interment is in Forest Hills Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be considered in memory of Mrs. Carrie Mae Hunter Ashmore to the Second Missionary Baptist Church Capital Improvement Fund.
