NCBW To Host Women And Girls Health And Financial Wellness Conference

  • Friday, August 31, 2018

The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Chattanooga Chapter, Inc. will host the 3rd Annual Make It Matter! Make It Happen! Make It A Healthy Lifestyle! Women and Girls Health and Financial Wellness Conference on Saturday, Sept. 8 from 7:45 a.m.-2 p.m. at Erlanger Baroness Medical Mall, 975 E. 3rd St.

Erlanger Health System is Platinum Sponsor for the event.

The conference will offer sessions for women and girls addressing topics that include mental health, the opioid epidemic, bullying and bystanding, as well as domestic violence.

"In addition to politics and education, NCBW aims to address the areas of healthcare and economic development. This conference is a great opportunity to provide relevant information to all women and girls as it relates to health and financial wellness.

"There are a number of health disparities affecting women and girls of diverse populations in disparate proportions. We want to do our part to close those gaps so that the influencers in our homes, in our places of employment and in our community are equipped to live lives that are emotionally, physically and mentally healthy," officials said.

Vendors will be on site providing relevant health information and resources.  All vendors, speakers and attendees are women, to ensure a comfortable environment in which to hold "open and honest conversations."

Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. There is no cost to attend.  Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Call 778-LINK (5465) to register.

Minors must have a signed consent form in order to attend.

Shawanna Kendrick, Public Relations chair said, "As the Platinum sponsor, Erlanger Health System is proud to host this year’s Make It Matter! Make It Happen! Make It A Healthy Lifestyle!  Women and Girls Conference.  The conference is aligned with Erlanger’s mission to compassionately care for people.  The conference and topics will help identify and educate women and girls in the community who are not aware of how to access or who may not have access to healthcare needs for themselves or a family member.  That is what makes this year’s women and girl’s conference so special."

"The National Coalition of 100 Black Women Chattanooga Chapter embraces the need to educate women and girls initiatives throughout the year. This is only one of their many signature programs offered," officials said.

"We have several Erlanger departments who have signed up as exhibitors and will provide educational material and program information.  Our Chief Medical Officer Dr. Charles Woods, chair of Pediatrics and chief medical officer, has gone as far as to identify a speaker for the event, Dr. Yvonne Jones, whose topic is most appropriate for our young girls, 'The Path to Adolescent Wellbeing; Wishing for Wakanda,'" said Elizabeth Appling, chief diversity officer, Erlanger Health System.
