Vernie Oretha Peters, 74, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Thursday, February 21, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Aug. 25, 1944 in Jellico, Tn., a daughter of the late George Sherman and Nora Mitchell Campbell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Ralph Peters Jr.; brothers, McArthur, Tom, Robert and Horace Campbell; and sister, Mary Helen Campbell. 

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Paul David and Vickie Peters of Enterprise, Al.; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Elizabeth Campbell, George Lewis and Debbie Campbell of Dalton, Ga,; sister, Emma Sue Miller of Erwin, Tn.; grandchildren, Sara and John King of Chatsworth, Ga., Amy and Adam Wagner of Fombell, Pa., Zachary Peters of Rossville, Ga,; great-grandchild, Otto Wagner; and special friend, Judy Silvers of Chatsworth, Ga. 

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Vernie Oretha Peters will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. from Valley Baptist Church with Reverend Charlie Hamm and Reverend Steve Spangler officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday. 

In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
