Chattanooga Police have made an arrest in a Tuesday afternoon home invasion on E. 14th Street in which one of the robbers was killed.
Police said 24-year-old Perry Thomas was shot and killed by resident Edward Garth, 32.
Travis Garth, 30, who allegedly wielded an AK-47-style handgun during the incident, was arrested on a charge of aggravated robbery.
Darious Woods, 22, was also shot during the home invasion.
He is being held on other warrants.
Edward Garth said he was doing laundry at 3:45 p.m. when Garth entered through the front door. He said they spoke for about 15 minutes until Garth opened the front door and let two other men in. He said one of the men was armed with a knife and another was holding a bag.
He said Travis Garth retrieved the AK-47-type pistol from the bag and demanded that he give him money.
Edward Garth said he retrieved a pistol from under a couch cover and fired several times at the robbers. He said one of the trio fell to the floor. He said he and Travis Garth then engaged in a physical struggle while the third suspect ran from the house.
He said he then retreated to his bedroom and Travis Garth exited the house. He said he last saw Travis Garth running from the house with the AK-47 weapon in his hands.
Police said evidence at the scene corroborated the victim's account. They said an AK-style magazine was found inside the residence on the floor.
Travis Garth claimed he was at a separate location at the time of the incident.
Chattanooga Police said they responded to a report of a home invasion with a person shot in the 5000 block of 14th Avenue.
Upon arrival, police located Thomas on the floor suffering from a gunshot wound. Hamilton County EMS transported him to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police secured the scene and called for the CPD Violent Crimes Bureau to respond. Police spoke with the resident of the home who advised three men attempted to rob him inside of his residence and he shot at them. He said the other two men fled.
While on the scene, police were notified that Woods had arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound. It was later determined that he was shot while at the residence at 14th Avenue.
Woods was transported to the Hamilton County Jail on warrants from another agency after being treated at the hospital.
Police were able to locate Garth at an apartment at 1420 E. 5th St. and transported him to the Hamilton County Jail without incident.
