Lee Lands 10 On Gulf South Conference Spring All-Academic Teams

The Lee University Athletic Department had 10 athletes land on the Spring Gulf South Conference All-Academic Teams and 99 athletes earn GSC Spring Honor Roll distinction the league office announced on Wednesday.

All-American baseball senior Miguel Pimentel represented the Flames with a 3.30 GPA as an International Business major. Men's golfer Evan Spence qualified for the South Regional Championship and earned a spot on the team with a 3.90 GPA as a Business Administration major.
Casey Guthrey (Sophomore, English major, 3.36 GPA) and Moises Ponce (Junior, Mathematics major, 3.90 GPA) claimed Men's Track and Field All-Academic team honors after helping to guide the Flames to the GSC Championship in May.

On the women's side All-GSC standout women's golfer Haverly Harrold garnered academic distinction for the second straight season with a 3.52 GPA as a Health Science major. Teammate Judianne Speach joined Harrold on the Women's Golf Academic team with a perfect 4.00 GPA (Mathematics). Women's lacrosse attacker Becca Broadwick was second on the team in goals and thrived in the classroom as a Business major carrying a 3.78 GPA.

Rounding out the 10 standout athletes were women's tennis all-conference selection Carly Sickinger who boasts a perfect 4.00 GPA while studying Nursing. Women's Track and Field all-region performers Charlee Boxall and Kiley Brock also landed on the GSC All-Academic team. Boxall is a Nursing major (3.63 GPA) while Brock is a senior Public Relations major (3.70 GPA).

Student athletes must have completed at least one-year of study at the institution and carry a 3.20 GPA or higher in order to be nominated. The voting process takes into account academic and athletic achievement.

Overall Lee finished second only to Montevallo in total GSC Honor Roll selections. The Falcons had 126 spring athletes post a 3.00 cumulative GPA or higher while the Flames and Lady Flames had 99. Alabama Huntsville was third with 94. Any student athlete who participated in a regular season contest and has a 3.00 cumulative GPA or higher is eligible for the GSC Honor Roll.
