Police Blotter: Frequent Speeder Was Late To Work At Ooltewah Restaurant; Officer Seek Work For Panhandlers

Officers conducted a traffic stop near 9.2 Interstate 75 (N) when the driver passed officers at an extremely high rate of speed (approximately 90 in a 65). The subject stated his speedometer did not work , he did not see the officers, and he was late to work. An officer reported, "It was explained to the subject that the excuses were no reason for traveling at such a speed. It was highly suggested the subject operate his vehicle within the laws of the Interstate. The subject is well known to officers in this area and is employed by Pueblo's in Ooltewah. The E-Citation was not available at this time or a citation may have been issued."

A motorcycle crashed at 2407 4th Ave. The motorcycle involved in the wreck came back confirmed as stolen. Officers notified the NCIC desk and they contacted the original reporting agency (DKPD), who notified the owner and removed the motorcycle as stolen. The driver of the motorcycle, Joshua Davis, was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

A resident of Buena Vista Drive said at some point during the night, an unknown party broke into his 2009 Nissan Xterra. He said the vehicle was locked, but, found no damage to it. He does not know how entry was made. A $1,570 water quality meter kit belonging to Limestone Valley RC&D Council was stolen.

Police interviewed a man on Shallowford Road who said he pulled in front of a black Mini Cooper in traffic. He said the white female driver of the vehicle was visibly upset. He then exited his vehicle with his hands out and stated that he was sorry. The woman responded by pointing a gun at him. He said he then got in his car and they went separate ways.

An officer spotted two people panhandling at 2300 4th Ave. The officer said, "Upon arrival, I spoke to Mr. Justin Bennett and Ms. April Redwine who stated they were homeless and staying in a tent behind the Waffle House. I asked them if they have been looking for jobs. They stated they are not from here but they did put in a few applications in but haven't heard from anyone. Mr. Bennett stated he put into the Burger King. I walked over to the Burger King to speak to the store manager. All the managers were in there at the time and I told them about Mr. Bennett and Ms. Redwine's situation and how I believed they could add value if they were hired at this store. The managers stated to me to have them walk in and apply again. I told this to both Mr. Bennett and Ms. Redwine. Both of them walked towards the Burger King."

A clerk at the Mapco at 5500 Highway 153 said a man came into the store and attempted to buy beer. The clerk explained to the man that he could not sell beer after 3 a.m. The suspect slapped $8 on the counter, walked out of the store and left in a truck. The amount of beer amounted to approximately $4 worth of alcohol.

An officer responded to a animal injury call at 3609 Cherryton Dr. Police assisted McKamey Animal Services in response a report of an animal bite at this address. Upon arrival, police met with the victim, Ashton Gochenaur, who reported that she is a realtor working with the homeowner to evict the current tenants and sell the property. Ms. Gochenaur reported that even after several attempts and requests, the residents, including Jerome Wyatt, failed or refused to properly secure his three pitbulls, and one of them attacked her, tearing her pants and puncturing the skin on her leg. McKamey responded to the scene and issued several citations to Wyatt, who police said "did not cooperate at all, and refused to provide any identification except his name. After many requests, Mr. Wyatt finally provided his date of birth, and refused to cooperate any more after that, taunting police by saying, 'I told you you wouldn't get my ID.' " A McKamey officer issued citations to Wyatt.
