Baylor Swim Club / Baylor School athlete, Ellie Waldrep was chosen as one of 48 girls from across the country to participate in USA Swimming’s National Select Camp slated for October 10-13 at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

“This is a great opportunity for Ellie.

At a camp of this
level, Ellie will be exposed to a wide range of information that can really help in her preparation as she transitions to a National level competitor. This camp is for those athletes who are on the cusp of representing the United States in international competition, so hopefully, the experience will give her that push to take her swimming to that next, very exciting level,” said Head Coach Dan Flack.

Baylor Swimming Director of Operations / Asst. Coach Laura Pitman was also named to the National Select Camp Staff.  She was named the Head Manager of the girl’s team camp.  This is the second time in the last year that Pitman has been selected to an elite USA Swimming camp staff.

“Super pumped for Coach Pitman to once again be out at the Olympic Training Center working with and learning from the best in the business. This is the 15th time that USA Swimming has either asked Baylor Swim Club coaches or used the Baylor School facilities for one of their signature camps and international teams.  I think it is significant that USA Swimming once again truly values what Baylor Swim Club coaches and facilities bring to the table relative to helping USA Swimming achieve their ultimate goals. It is exciting for our program and we all are proud to be a part of it,” said Head Coach Dan Flack.

During the three-day camp, Waldrep will experience the day-to-day routine of a National Team athlete and utilize the state-of-the-art training facilities. The campers will learn from top professionals about post-race recovery, psychological training skills, nutrition, and stroke technique. In addition, campers will hear from headlining speaker and mental performance coach, Dr. Tiffany Jones, who works with professional athletes around the world addressing mental toughness and how to reach personal excellence.

“As the National Governing Body for the sport of swimming in this country, it is very exciting for us to be able to host some of the best young talent in the pool today,” USA Swimming’s Senior Director of Education, Programs, and Services Mariejo Truex said. “The National Select Camp provides swimmers on the cusp of reaching international-level competition with an invaluable opportunity, tools, and experience to help continue the upward trajectory of their swimming careers.”

Waldrep is one of 48 top USA Swimming female athletes selected for the camp. Swimmers are selected from the SWIMS database of top times during the 2019 qualifying period, where the three fastest athletes in each event – ranging from age 14 to 16 – are invited to the camp. In addition, the six highest-scoring IMX athletes ages 14-15 are also invited.
