Voting For Your Favorite Piggy Bank Open Through Nov. 13

  • Tuesday, November 3, 2020

Nineteen area businesses and nonprofits want you to vote for their decorated piggy bank in the 2020 Pigs on Parade. University of Tennessee Extension Agent June Puett coordinates the annual event and reminds the public of the need for saving money.

Votes are placed by ”liking” the individual photos of the piggy banks on the Tennessee Saves Facebook page for one or more of their favorites. Piggy bank are divided into two categories and can be found on the Facebook page or thru these links:
2020 Business category/album: https://tiny.utk.edu/2020POPBusiness
2020 Nonprofit category/album: https://tiny.utk.edu/2020POPNonProfit

Voting ends on Nov. 13. Facebook votes and a panel of judges will determine the winner in each category.

According to Ms. Puett, 60 percent of Americans have experienced a financial set back or income loss in the past year. Only one-fourth of Americans said they could cover a $400 unexpected expense pre-pandemic.

Ms. Puett say we need to be mindful of spending going into the holiday season and has these suggestions:

- Give gifts of times. Research shows most people prefer a gift of an experience rather than a purchased gift.

- Make coupons to give for cooking or craft lessons or a monthly hike and picnic. Share your interest or skills and enjoy time together even at a distance.

- Support your area’s economy and community by purchasing gifts or gift cards from locally owned stores and restaurants.
