Estelle (Harris) Hester, 93, of Dayton, passed away on Tuesday morning, February 18, 2020, at Rhea Medical Center.

She was born on February 22, 1926 in Bowling Green, Ky.

Estelle was preceded in death by her husband, William Gene Hester; her daughter, Judith Leigh Hester; her mother, Myrtle (Chaney) Goad; and two sisters.

Estelle moved to Dayton in 1997 and previously lived in Crossville where she was a member of Fairfield Glade Baptist Church. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education at the University of Tennessee (UTC) and was a 2nd grade teacher in Boyton, Ga., for many years. Estelle was a member of the New Union Baptist Church in Dayton.

She is survived by her son, Joseph (Gail) Hester of Dayton; three grandsons, Matthew Hester of Chattanooga, Christopher (April) Hester of Chickamauga, GA, Jeremy (Constance) Nolan of East Ridge; one granddaughter, Chevante (Reggie) Johnson of Soddy Daisy; 10 great-grandchildren; and five brothers.

Graveside funeral services for Estelle will be held Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Rhea Memory Gardens with Dr. Danny Ruehling officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Gene.

Memorial contributions may be made in Estelle’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
