Children of various ages will transport attendees from Miller Park to another universe with the annual concert of “A Galaxy of Harmonies”, a Suzuki performance, on Saturday, May 2.
Started in 2019 by Bryony Stroud-Watson and Mary Ann Mears, the Chattanooga Suzuki Collaborative exists to promote opportunities for group music activities designed for Suzuki music teachers, their students and families, and to perform for the public around Chattanooga.
According to the International Suzuki Association, Shinichi Suzuki invented the method after studying music in Germany in the 1920s. A decade later, he started teaching children in Japan first with the violin, but since then, the program has been used with other instruments.
“At the Chattanooga Suzuki Collaborative, we are proud to foster a deep love of life and music, cultivating connection, creativity, and excellence through the Suzuki method," said Ms. Stroud Watson and Ms. Mears. "We provide support to teachers and families by combining studios for annual group concerts in May, October and December.”
“River City Company is proud to support A Galaxy of Harmonies and to help showcase art and culture created by residents of all ages," said Tess Rollins, director of Programs and Events at River City Company. "Miller Park was designed for events just like this and we are thrilled they continue to come back year after year.”
The local performance will be an hour-long set featuring music inspired by the Star Wars film series. Attendees are encouraged to dress as their favorite galactic hero and bring a blanket or a chair.
