Holcombe, Jeanette Paxton

Longtime Pastor's Wife Was Wonderful Homemaker And Musician

  • Saturday, March 28, 2020

Jeanette Paxton Holcombe, 87, of Chattanooga, went to be with the Lord on March 28, 2020.

Jeanette was born in Clemson, SC, daughter to Fred Leroy and Eva Devora Paxton. She attended Pendleton High School where she met and married the love of her life, Robert Cecil Holcombe, Sr.  They were married for over 68 years. She was preceded in death by her husband last year.

Jeanette & Cecil provided a loving home for their three children, Deborah (John) Ray, of Oxford, Ga., Robert (Boots) Holcombe, of Chattanooga and Fred (Tina) Holcombe, of Chattanooga; their six grandchildren – Amelia, Abby & Ashely Ray, Scott (Chelsea) Holcombe, Janna (Daniel) Kalin and Luke Holcombe; and one great-grandchild, Ava Holcombe.

She was an amazing homemaker, loved to cook and bake, enjoyed assorted needlework and working on puzzles. She also played the piano and organ from early childhood and passed that love for music to her children and grandchildren.

A major part of her life was being a pastor’s wife for over 47 years. She served in many areas of music, children’s ministry, hospitality and much more. After retiring from Trinity Baptist Church in Athens, Ga. after 22 years, Jeanette and Cecil settled in Monroe, Ga. and attended Calvary Baptist Church in Loganville, Ga.

The family extends our gratitude for the tremendous help, care and encouragement that has been given by the staff at NHC-Chattanooga and Hickory Valley Retirement Community.

The family will have a private burial in Central, SC, and a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Arrangements are by the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 8214 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.
