Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County:

I-24 Replacement of Belvoir Avenue Bridge over I-24 and I-24 bridges over Germantown Road near MM 183: Lane shifts are in place on I-24 EB and WB under the Belvoir Avenue Bridge, at North and South Terrace approaching the Belvoir Avenue Bridge, and on Germantown Road under the I-24 Bridge. Double interior lane closures will occur on I-24 EB and WB between MM 182 and 184 to support the demolition of the Belvoir Avenue Bridge on Thursday and between Sunday through Wednesday from 9 p.m.-6 a.m. Traffic pacing will be required on I-24 during these lane closures. Additionally, there will be single lane closures in the north and south directions of Germantown Road under the I-24 Bridge and at the intersections with North and South Terrace. These closures will occur on Thursday and between Sunday through Wednesday from 9 p.m.-6 a.m. Motorists should be aware of the Belvoir Avenue Bridge closure and detour that was put into place on April 20. There is a 45 MPH speed limit reduction throughout the project corridor on I-24. Estimated project completion date is August 2021. [Bell and Associates Construction, LP/Blevins/CMGC03]

I-75 at I-24 Interchange Reconstruction: Watch for trucks entering and exiting project. Traffic should expect multiple lane shifts traveling through the interchange. Lane closures will occur Sunday nights through Thursday nights between 9 p.m.-6 a.m. at the following locations: I-75 NB MM 1, I-75 SB MM 3 and I-24 EB MM 184.0 Traffic pacing may occur throughout interchange Sunday nights through Thursday nights between 9 p.m.-6 a.m. Additionally, there may intermittent shoulder closures at various locations for access to the median and roadside areas. US-27 (I-124) Widening from I-24/US-27 interchange to north of the Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River, including widening the Olgiati Bridge: Work on this project continues with activities occurring in the median of US-27. Motorists should be alert for construction vehicles entering and exiting the activity area. Additionally, the southbound ramp from W. Main Street to southbound US-27 has been temporarily closed and will remain so until further notice. Detours are posted. Motorists should pay close attention to the detour signage posted. The speed limit on US-27 in the construction zone remains 45 MPH. Weather permitting; the contractor may implement temporary lane/shoulder closures on weeknights between the hours of 7 p.m.-6 a.m. At least one lane will remain open in each direction on US-27. Beginning on Friday, at 7 p.m. and running through Saturday at 7 p.m., temporary lane closures will be in place for northbound US-27 from I-24 to the Olgiati Bridge for shifting northbound traffic onto the new alignment of US-27 northbound. During this closure there will be intermittent northbound ramp closures. During these ramp closures incoming downtown traffic from northbound US-27 will be detoured to Manufacturers Road / US-27 southbound / 4th Street. All outgoing downtown traffic to northbound US-27 will be detoured to 4th Street / northbound US-27. A State Trooper is requested for the duration of this lane closure. TDOT Contractor on I-24 both directions at MM 0.00: Between Monday and Wednesday, the shoulder will be closed at the Georgia Line as the survey crew works in this area.

Utility Work on SR-17 (Glass Street) in both directions from LM 6.2 to LM 6.2: A portable traffic signal is in place at the intersection of Glass Street and Frost Street with a single lane closure. Signage and cones will be present. Traffic signal will be operational between 9 a.m.-3 p.m., changing to flashing yellow after hours. Motorists should use caution through the area. Estimated completion date is June 26.

Utility Work on SR-2 (E. 23rd Street) in both directions from LM 8.59 to LM 9.29: A shoulder and single lane closure will occur between Gifford Street and Tinsley Place. Signage and cones will be present. Motorists should use caution through the area and be aware of personnel and equipment between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. through Wednesday.

Utility Work on SR-2 (Lee Highway) in both directions from LM 15.99 to LM 17.26: Nighttime lane closures will occur between E. Brainerd Road and Dupre Road. Signage, barrels, and cones will be present. Motorists should use caution through the area and be aware of personnel and equipment between 9 p.m.-5 a.m. through Wednesday.

Utility Work on SR-2 (Lee Highway) northbound from LM 18.56 to LM 18.66: A nighttime lane closure will occur between Shallowford Road and McCutcheon Road. Signage, flaggers, and cones will be present. Motorists should use caution through the area and be aware of personnel and equipment between 10 p.m.-4 a.m. through Wednesday.

Utility Work on SR-27 (Market Street) southbound from LM 4.54 to LM 4.54: Sidewalk and lane closures will occur between W. 14th Street and Station Street along Market Street. Signage and barricades will be present. Pedestrians should be aware of the sidewalk detour. Motorists should use caution through the area and be aware of personnel and equipment between 8:30 a/,/-5 p.m. through Wednesday.

Utility Work on SR-320 (E. Brainerd Road) westbound from LM 2.74 to LM 3.47: Nighttime lane closures will occur on E. Brainerd Road between Gunbarrel Road and Mackey Avenue. Signage, barrels, and flaggers will be present. Motorists should use caution through the area and be aware of personnel and equipment between 9 p.m.-5 a.m. through Wednesday.

Utility Work on SR-8 (Taft Highway) southbound from LM 19.08 to LM 19.08: A shoulder and single lane closure will occur between Miles Road and James Boulevard Signage, cones, and flaggers will be present. Motorists should use caution through the area and be aware of personnel and equipment between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Utility Work on SR-8 (W. Main Street) eastbound from LM 8.26 to LM 7.3: Mobile lane closures will occur along W. Main Street from Cowart Street to Central Avenue as crews’ transition work zone. Motorists should use caution and be aware of personnel and equipment when traveling through the work zones. Signage, cones, and flaggers will be present between 9 a.m.-2 p.m. through Aug. 1.

SR-29 (US-27) Repair of the bridge over Big Soddy Creek (LM 20.6):  During this report period the contractor will have traffic restricted with one lane of SR-29 southbound closed over Big Soddy Creek. Additionally, one lane of SR-111 south-bound will be closed as it approaches the SR-29 junction. Cleaning of the McCallie Tunnel on SR-2 (US-64, US-11), the Stringers Ridge Tunnel on SR-8 (US-127), and the Bachman Tubes on SR-8 (US-76, US-41): on Thursday from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. the Bachman Tubes will be cleaned supported by a signed detour. SR-317 (Apison Pike) Improvement project from SR-321 (Ooltewah-Ringgold Road) to east of Layton Lane: Tallant Road will be closed on June 26 at 6 p.m. The contractor will work around the clock until this work is completed. The closure is required for open cut of the roadway to install sanitary sewer. The road is expected to be open by end of day on June 27 excluding unforeseen construction delays. Flagging will occur to allow for equipment and materials delivery. Estimated project completion date is June 2025. [Wright Brothers Construction Company, Inc./Osbonlighter/CNT336]

SR-58 (Ochs Highway) Resurfacing from the Georgia State line (LM 0) to SR-17 (LM 2.2): Between Monday to June 26, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., there will be a flagging operation to facilitate resurfacing operations on the roadway. Motorists should expect long delays. The traveling public may want to consider alternate routes.  [Talley Construction Company, Inc./Micka/CNT146]
