Lessons and Carols
The Lee University School of Music and School of Religion will present the ninth annual Lessons and Carols on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m. The interactive service uniting biblical lessons with Christmas music will take place in The Lee University Chapel.
“I am thrilled that we are able to be back together this season,” said Dr. William Green, dean of the SOM. “Something significant was missing from Christmas last year when we weren’t able to share this beautiful experience. For many of us at Lee, it signals an end to the semester’s busyness and an opportunity to focus on the true meaning of Christmas.”
Faculty from the SOR will read nine lessons from the Bible that tell the fall of humanity, the promise of salvation, and the birth of Jesus. Each reading will be followed by a related carol or musical selection performed by the Lee University Chorale, directed by Dr. Green. Guests are invited to join in singing traditional Christmas hymns.
“What a joy to experience the sounds of Christmas again this year with excellent music and readings from Scripture within the beautiful setting of the Lee University Chapel,” said Dr. Terry Cross, dean of the SOR. “For almost a decade, the School of Music and the School of Religion have teamed up to offer this extraordinary Christmas experience that brings the Advent season to life.”
Dr. Matthew Krepps, professor of chemistry at Lee, will be the organist for the event. Prior to the start time, he will perform an extended prelude and voluntary music. The organ music will include “Of the Father’s Love Begotten,” three movements of “Wake, Awake, for Night is Flying,” “Silent Night, Holy Night,” and the processional “Once in Royal David’s City” to begin the service.
The event is free, open to the public, and does not require tickets.
Livestream viewing will be available at www.leeu.live.
