  • Saturday, October 8, 2022
For the first time since 2005, the Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team earned a victory on the road at UNCG after rolling its way to a 3-1 (19-25, 25-14, 25-22, 26-24) decision on Saturday evening inside Fleming Gymnasium in Greensboro, North Carolina.

After the win, Chattanooga snaps a three-match skid and evens out its league record to 3-3 while improving the overall record to 8-12. UNCG falls to 2-4 in SoCon play and 8-11 overall following the loss.

"I am very proud of the team, we haven't won in Greensboro since 2005.
It was something that needed to change and glad it happened tonight," said head coach Julie Torbett.

"Natalie [Tyson] and Sydney [Hall] did a great job leading the team and Chloe [Bryan] came in and had some nice swings and blocks when we really needed them. It was a total team effort."

Chattanooga dropped the first set by a 25-19 count and when losing the opening set this season, the Mocs entered the match 0-8 in such matches. UTC evened things out after claiming a convincing 25-14 win in the second and took the lead behind a 25-22 decision in the third. The Mocs clinched the match in a thrilling 26-24 victory in the fourth.

Natalie Tyson led the match with 17 kills at a highly efficient .298 attacking clip while Chloe Bryan joined the double-digit kill party with 10 at a .421 percentage. Tyson nearly completed a double-double after finishing the match with nine digs, and also added three block assists and a service ace.

Paige Gallentine once again led the Mocs on defense and posted her eighth 20+ dig performance of the season, finishing with an even 20 while also adding five assists and a pair of service aces. Sophia Bossong directed the offense with 32 assists and turned in a double-digit dig performance with 10. She also added three block assists and two aces.

Chattanooga out-hit UNCG by a .172 to a .125 margin in efficiency and nearly mirrored the opposition in kills (46-47), digs (67-67) and service aces (10-8). The Mocs forced the Spartans into six more attacking errors (27-21) and also out-blocked the team by a sizable 14-9 count.

Chattanooga (8-12, 3-3 SoCon) ends its five-match road streak on Wednesday when it visits in-state rival ETSU on Wednesday night in Johnson City. Match coverage links are available on GoMocs.com leading up to first serve.
