Hamilton Physician Group's Paynter Retires After 36 years

A retirement reception was recently held at Hamilton Medical Center for Steven Paynter, MD. He is pictured at the right with Hamilton Physician Group – General Surgery physicians and associates.
Steven Paynter, MD, general surgeon, recently retired from Hamilton Physician Group – General Surgery.

Dr. Paynter served in the Dalton area for 36 years.

“Steve is a world-class surgeon and an exceptional human being” said Richard Fromm, MD, HPG – General Surgery. “Over the years, he has been a mentor, colleague and friend, and I’ve had the privilege of working alongside him. His integrity, compassion, love of God and unwavering dedication to patient care have left a lasting mark on our medical community.
I can honestly say I’m a better person – both professionally and personally – for having known and worked with him.”

Dr. Paynter graduated from Dalton College and the University of Georgia before earning his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Paynter has led several surgical mission teams to Central and South America. He has served as president of the medical staff, hospital board member, chair of the Surgery Department at Hamilton Medical Center and president of the Whitfield/Murray County Medical Society.
