The Chattanooga Red Wolves Academy U17 Girls, led by coaches Danny McBride and Derek Potteiger, made Chattanooga soccer history this week by winning a USYS Division 1 Southern Regional Championship.
This is the first Chattanooga soccer team (boys or girls) to achieve this accomplishment. USYS Southern Regionals includes Division 1 state champion teams from 11 states and champions from 4 regional conference leagues, the group said.
The girls went undefeated, winning five games over six days, outscoring their opponents 15 goals for and only two goals against.
This outstanding performance earned them the title of 2025 U17 Girls Southern Regional Champions.
The team now heads to the USYS National Championships in Orlando, FL in three weeks to compete for a national title as one of the top 16 U17 girls teams nationally, in the USYS National League series. This is their third consecutive year earning a spot in the National Championships, and in 2024 they finished as National semi-finalists, both of which are a first-time accomplishment for any Chattanooga team, it was stated.
