Hunter Museum Receives Southeastern Museums Conference Publication And Technology Awards

  • Thursday, September 8, 2022

The Hunter Museum of American Art is the recipient of five 2022 Southeastern Museums Conference awards, one for publication design and four for the use of technology. The SEMC technology and publication design competitions recognize excellence and innovation in the use of technology and provide benchmarks for regional publication efforts in southeastern museums.

The Hunter received a gold award for digital marketing and silver awards for media production, virtual media, digital education, and mailers and calendars of events.

“These awards recognize the outstanding efforts of our staff to create and design effective digital materials that engage our visitors virtually and dynamic publication materials that enhance the guest experience,” said Hunter Museum Executive Director Virginia Anne Sharber. “The Hunter is honored to be recognized by SEMC for our work.”

The SEMC competitions received a record-breaking number of applications from a wide variety of museums across the southeast.  With technology continuing to gain importance throughout the museum field and resources being poured into documenting exhibitions through high-quality design and developing publications vital to institutional educational missions, expectations and standards were exceptionally high for this year’s applicants, said officials.

For the technology competition, winning entries were expected to demonstrate innovation, effective design, accessibility, creativity, and recognition of institutional identity. For the publication design competition, recognizing excellence in graphic design, applicants were judged on communication, effective design, creativity and pride of work, and recognition of institutional image and identity.

Award winners will be celebrated at an awards ceremony at the SEMC annual meeting on Oct. 26 in Rogers, Ar., as well as in the Fall 2022 Edition of INSIDE SEMC, a digital publication of the Southeastern Museums Conference. This designation recognizes the Hunter Museum’s contribution to professional standards in southeastern museums.
