Lee University Theatre and Lee University School of Music will present “The Sound of Music,” directed by Anna Marie Brendel, with music direction by Drs. Chery and Ron Brendel, on April 5 at 7 p.m.; April 6, 12-13 at 7:30 p.m.; and April 13 at 2:30 p.m.

“It is a joy to be able to bring such a classic fixture of American musical theatre to our audience,” said Anna Marie Brendel. “We are blessed at Lee to give a variety of design, leadership, backstage, and on-stage opportunities to students of all skillsets in theatre practice.”

Based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, “The Sound of Music” follows the story of Maria, a lively postulant who serves as a governess to the seven children of Captain von Trapp and brings music and joy to the household. However, as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision.

“It’s so much fun working with this fantastic cast,” said Dr. Chery Brendel, one of the music directors for the show. “We don’t often work with children in the collegiate space, but we have an extraordinary group that’s learning fast and having lots of fun hobnobbing with the college students. We’re looking forward to a great show.”

“The Sound of Music” will perform in Lee’s Dixon Center, located on the corner of 11th Street and Church Street.

Tickets are available for purchase on Eventbrite.com, or at the box office in Lee’s Communication Arts Building, open weekdays from April 2-12 from 4-6 p.m. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the Dixon Box Office one hour prior to each show.
