J. Doris Woodard Lovelace was born September 19, 1930, to the late James L. and Mary E. Woodard. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, April 1, 2024.

Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Felix H. Lovelace; brothers, James L. Jr., and Charles (Alice) Woodard; sister, Annie Jewel (John) Woods; grandson, Michael P. Benning; and son-in-law, Walter L. Paris.

Doris accepted the Lord at an early age and was a true servant of God. She was a graduate of Howard High School. She was an enduring, dedicated member of Quinn-Adams Community Church, formerly Quinn Chapel AME Church; where she served in many capacities, Steward Board, Trustee Board, assistant treasurer, and as the devoted mother of the church.

She was also a member of the Allen Rankin Club and Senior Saints with the New Home Baptist Church, where Elder GM Spots is the Pastor.

She loved taking care of others before taking care of herself. She loved reading the Bible, doing crossword puzzles, word scrambles, talking on the phone and cooking Sunday dinner for her family. Her favorite Bible verses were Isaiah 40:31, John 1:1, and Psalms 121:1-8.

Her favorite songs were, Pass Me, Not O Gentle Savior, I Need Thee Every Hour, Just a Little Talk With Jesus, Hold to God's Unchanging Hand, and many more.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory, four daughters, Darnella Lovelace, Phyllis L. Benning both of Chattanooga TN, Debra A. (Milton) Poole of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Tondalaya L. Paris of Chattanooga, TN; six grandchildren, David L. (Tia) Benning of San Antonio, TX; devoted granddaughter, Latricia R Lovelace, Shanisha M. Paris, both of Chattanooga TN, Stacey L. Poole of Allen, TX. Iris C. (Christopher) Lujan of Henderson, NV, Stephanie N. Paris (Chardel Davis), Cassandra Paris all of Chattanooga, TN; 11 great-grandchildren, Dominique Roberts, Columbus, GA, Alexander Boney, Jacksonville, FL, Mariah Benning of Atlanta, GA, Kasey (Racheal) Lovelace of Menlo, GA, Carmen Taylor, Michael Benning; devoted great granddaughter, Kayla Lovelace all of Chattanooga, Kyrah Benning of Richmond, Virginia, Le'Airius Jones of Chattanooga, TN, Jada Benning of San Antonio, TX Tundra, Paris, Chattanooga, TN Mayor Luann Henderson, NV; two great-great grandchildren, Kole and Khristian. Lovelace of Menlo, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Public viewing will be held 9-11 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2024, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service in the chapel of John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., Chattanooga, TN, 423-622-9995.

Interment will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery.
